Robert Oatley, Cabernet Sauvignon, Signature Series, 2019, Margaret River, Australia

This Cabernet Sauvignon from Robert Oatley is a big red wine showing off the heat of Australia. Dry, solid tannins but pretty smooth. I think a few more years laying down would help to soften it a bit more. The flavours are intense with blackberry and hedgerow berries, leather, oak are in there but that intensity is a bit over the top.

A rich beef strew or bbq would pair with this wine very well. At £13 a bottle it’s reasonably price but not my first choice.

Krondorf, Riesling, 2019, Eden Valley, Australia

Krondorf, Riesling, 2019, Eden Valley, Australia

Krondorf’s Riesling from the Eden Valley in Australia is a rather decent dry Riesling.  There’s a freshness, a slight petroleum aroma, it’s the fruit concentration comes through on the nose and the flavours. You get lemon and citrus first with a little peach, minerality underlines it all with reason length.

At AUD16 a bottle it’s decent value and for me a good day to day white wine.

Nardello, Turbian, Soave, 2019, Italy

Yep another italian white wine! Which for about £10 is pretty good value. It’s a typical Soave, dry and reasonably light with a soft and roundness feel. There’s flavours of peach, citrus, apple and hints of pear and honey. It won’t set the wine world alight, but it’s rather good and worth trying.

From northern Italy, this Cab Franc and Cab Sav blend is rather good, dry, smooth and booasting great length and flavours of black fruits, chocolate, coffee, leather with a earthiness and smokey undertone. The down side is at £24 a bottle it will prevent some from trying it. Sub £20 it would be highly recommended, but over the £20, there are others that are as good but cheaper.

Ugalde, Rioja, Crianza, 2019, Spain

This Rioja from Ugalde is a great example of a young Rioja, age around 6 months in oak it’s dry, high in tannins and acidity, got massive amounts of black and red fruit flavours. There’s leather, chocolate, coffee notes in there with a slight earthy undertone all integrated very well.

At zbout £11 a bottle it’s excellent value and paired with a winter roast or BBQ in the summer it’s an all year round wine.

Domaine Lafage, Centenaire, 2019, Languedoc, France

Domaine Lafage, Centenaire, 2019, Languedoc, France

This white wine from Domaine Lafage in the Languedoc, France is made with Granache Gris and Granache Blanc and is quite good, even great in some ways. Bold, dry with plenty of length there are ripe citrus and honey flavours with a bit of minerality and green apple poking through. The bit I’m not some keen on is the grapefruit hints. Great wine for chicken,  zesty salad or watching a sunset.

Domaine de la Potardiere, Muscadet Sevre et Maine, 2019, Loire, France

Domaine de la Potardiere, Muscadet Sevre et Maine, 2019, Loire, France

Loire wines are often decent value and high quality and this one from Domaine de la Potardiere is an excellent example. Being a Muscadet Sevre et Maine you get a dry, richly valued white wine with ripe citrus,  pineapple, peach, honey notes and sense that this could be a standard to judge others by.

At £15 a bottle it’s great value and not one to just guzzle

Cave de Lugny, Mâcon-Lugny, La Carte, 2019, Burgundy, France

Ah a rather good Burgundy is worth trying and this one from Cave de Lugny is very good, really very good. Dry with plenty of acidity and good length. It’s got lots going on on the flavour side with peach, apple, melon, oak notes and mineral undertone all rounded with soft butter and vanilla hints.

At £15 a bottle it’s amazing value.

California Republic, Pinot Noir, 2019, California, USA

American Pinot Noir is generally very good, not at least when we in the UK can get it. This one from California is no exception.  Excellent red fruit flavours and aromas with decent length this is a dry, smooth that won’t fail to be enjoyed. Unless your a tea totaler of course 😀 . Have it with chicken or smoked foods and just enjoy.
