Domaine des Brosses, Alain Girard et Fils, Sauvignon Blanc, 2022, Loire, France
Ah, french sauvignon Blanc is far more subtle than the usual New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. While this is not the greatest wine to come out of France it is a well made, on the drier side with flavours of citrus and softness that makes you happy to have another glass. At over £15 a bottle its a bit pricey but rather nice.
Chateau de l’Hyverniere, Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie, 2020, Loire, France
This white wine from the luave Valley from Chateau de l’Hyverniere is quite wonderful. It’s a dry white but quite light and frisky with high acidity which would make this perfect to go with seafood full stop there are flavors of citrus, lemon and grapefruit and green apple. There’s a mineral undertone which makes this quite a fabulous wine and at under £8 a bottle it’s great value.
Domaine de la Potardiere, Muscadet Sevre et Maine, 2019, Loire, France
Loire wines are often decent value and high quality and this one from Domaine de la Potardiere is an excellent example. Being a Muscadet Sevre et Maine you get a dry, richly valued white wine with ripe citrus, pineapple, peach, honey notes and sense that this could be a standard to judge others by.
At £15 a bottle it’s great value and not one to just guzzle
Chateau de Fesles, Cabernet Franc, 2016, Loire, France
This Chateau de Fesles Cabernet Franc is quite stunning. Theres plenty of ripe, soft, black fruit flavours. It’s dry, bold and not overly complex, meaning it’s an easy red to drink with or without food. Excellent with steak and a cheese board.. At £20 a bottle it’s very well priced.
Domaine Rochou, Les Chateliers, 2014, Loire, France
Another great red wine from the Loire this Domaine Rochou, Les Chateliers shows French wine at its best. It’s not particularly complex or out of this world but it’s very good all round with good length, plenty of black fruit, blackcurrant, plum and hints of blueberry. There’s oak, leather, earthiness and smoothness which makes this a red wine that you want to drink with or without food. At about £15 a bottle it’s excellent value.
Domaine Charles Joguet, Chinon Les Varennes Grand Cru, 2013, Loire, France
The Loire Valley has amazing red wines and this Domaine Charles Joguet, Chinon Les Varennes Grand Cru, is a cug above thd best, truly wonderful. Loire Rosé is pretty good and this one from Majestic is a bit sweeter than the dry Rosé you normally come across. There’s enough red fruit flavours and aromas to stop it from being lack luster but there is something just not there, maybe the sweetness throws you, the price of £7.99 on a mix six price is OK but not one I’ll try again.

Coteaux du vendomois, Chant Grives, 2014, Loire, France
The Loire in France makes some rather excellent wine and this Coteaux du vendomois, Chant Grives, 2014 good example of a reasonable priced everyday drinking wine that should just be enjoyed. Given its 8 years old there was plenty of right citrus fruits in there with honey notes it’s a semi sweet wine made with the Chenin grape.
Langlois-Chateau, Vieilles Vignes, Saumur, Loire, France
Purchased on our trip to the Loire this white wine from Langlois-Chateau in Saumur in the Loire. Made with Chenin its dry, light and acidic. Loads of aromas and flavours of yellow apple, pear and pineapple with notes of vanilla and hints of butter, a slight creaminess and a little honey in there.
At £20 a bottle its not cheap but its a quality wine. Enjoy with friends over a meal, went well with home made pizza.
Chateau Bellerive, Quarts de Chaume, 2005, Loire, France
I loved this wine from Chateau Bellerive in the Loire, it was AMAZING, lush and full of flavour. Whats best is this desert wine is in a full sized bottle – magic.
There are flavours and aromas of honey, marmalade, peach, orange and mineral undertones that are well balanced and not over powered by sweetness. At £40 a bottle its well worth trying and taking your time over it. Have it with fresh fruit to bring out the best.
