You can get excellent Greek wine, its out there but this orange wine is not one of these. Its not terrible, but its quite bland with very little flavour and a little acidic. Not much else I can say.

Tsiakkas Winery, Porfyros, Cyprus
Cyprus makes some decent wine and this read from Tsiakkas Winery is pretty good. It’s made with Grenache, Merlot and Agiorgitiko. Show me best with food because although you’ve got cherry and blackcurrant and plum flavours with a background of oak, coffee and chocolate, it’s a little unrefined. It’s not so much criticism but it’s a wine for place and time and that’s with food. It went well with a burger! It’s an everyday drinking wine that you can just, well drink and don’t think too much about, enjoy it.

Tsiakkas winery, Commandaria, Desert Wine, Cyprus
Almost any country can grow grapes and make wine good wine on the other hand is harder to make, cypress can make flipping good wine as this Commandaria, desert wine from Tsiakkas winery shows. It’s a deep rich colour with the aromas of citrus, apricot, dried figs and raisins which follows through into the flavours and is joined with a toffee undernote. There’s definite sweetness which sticks to the mouth but isn’t sickly, it is quite fantastic.
We sit on its own and had it with cheese which was just magical. An amazing dessert wine that I’d be happy to drink the rest of my life.
