Iron Horse, Shiraz, Australia

From Aldi this is a cheap Shiraz from Australia. It’s cheap and cheerful and pretty good. Aromas of red and black fruits, tobacco and spice with a bit of earthy undertone. The flavours following with additional jamminess. Dry and a bit heavy on the tannins for well under £10 it’s good value. I would eat a chunk of meat with this wine though, just to help soften the tannins.

Australian Shiraz by Lidl

Does a cheap bottle of Australian Shiraz from Lidl taste any good?

Well

Well

Well

I can’t say it’s bad, aromas and flavours are very fruit driven, red, black fruits and soft tannins. It’s a cheap, dry, Australian Shiraz and it does what it says in the bottle. I had it over 3 evening and it was a little better each evening, a little more softer and expressive, not sure if I was getting use to it or the air helped.

I got this for £2.99 on offer, from £4.99, at that price it’s good value.

Gatt, High Eden Single Vineyard Shiraz 2016 from Australia

From one of the top producers of Eden Valley you would expect alot and you get it.

Smooth with aromas of sweet spice, malberry white pepper, clove’s. The texture and flavours are a little jammy and creamy but not full on. There’s plenty of dark fruit in there and it’s perfect with BBQ steak and a cheese board.
At £30 a bottle it’s not cheap but you get what you pay for, delicious.

Laithwaites McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017 – Australia

A typical Australian Shiraz is a good start to describe this wine. I could start with saying that this is a very good example. It’s a dry wine with firm tannins that grip the mouth. There are aromas of black fruits and black cherry especially. These follow through in the taste added to with spice, pepper and clove’s. Lots going on which shows a very good winemaker has been involved in the making of this wine. At £15 a bottle it’s at the higher end of the price bracket which you would expect.

Houghton Thomas Yule Shiraz 2014 – Western Australia

From the Frankland River area of Western Australia this is not your average bottle of wine. The wine has changed going into garnet in colour with aromas of black cherry, spice and Smokey under tones which fade very quickly Kevin this is 5 years old not totally surprising however at AUD70 a bottle it should be better than this. Tannins are present but this is a more fruit driven wine now and that’s I think positive thing.

At AUD 70 a bottle it’s a little pricy, excellent but pricey.
