Sire de Beaupre, Brut sparkling wine from Carrefour, France

Bought from Carrefour in Calais this is one of those cheap french sparkling wines. Fresh, clean, hints of pear and completely forgetable.

I’m not even going to try and find a refined aroma or flavour. Is this better than prosecco? Better than most but I’m not sure that’s a big positive. For me treat this as a base for drinking or for adding flavourings such as Cassis. Theres nothing bad but spend a few pounds more and get a bottle of Bouvet Ladubay sparkling wine.

At Eur5 a bottle it is what it is.

Plaisirs de loire, Brut Rose from Saumur, Loire Valley, France

A dry roses from Carrefour at €6. Is it any good well there are are a few aromas of faint red fruit, but on the the flavour front there are red currants and hints of strawberry and quite a lot of cream soda.

As long as you don’t expect to gold medal aromas and flavours this is actually really excellent value. It’s not Bouvet Ladubay sparkling but it’s good.

Blanquette De Limoux from Carrefour, France

Is a Eur5 bottle of sparkling wine from Carrefour any good? This is a bottle of Blanquette De Limoux at Eur5. The first thing that hits you is the intense aromas of apple cider and pear from mauzac grapes, there’s also Chardonnay and Chenin in there. The flavours are more pear. It’s dry and light but a little one dimensional. For Eur5 it’s on the mark cash wise but Carrefour do better for about the same money.
