Wine made with the Solaris grape is usually found in England as its a grape that grows very well here. In England it produces a crisper wine with green apples, grass and hints of gooseberry.  This wine from high in the Dollomites in Italy produces something different. Its dry, crisp with citrus and stone fruit flavours and a hint of gooseberry and very clean.

At £8 a bottle at Majestic Wines It’s got to be the best value white wine of the year, absolutely cracking.

This is my first Colombian wine and Vina Sicilia has done a good job on it. It’s dry with good fruit concentration and decent length. Black cherry and plum are your primary flavours with hints of oak and raspberry poking through. It’s not a subtle red wine but it would be a good pairing for a BBQ or Sunday roast beef dinner. At about £12 a bottle it’s OK value.

This syrah from Paul Jaboulet Aîné, in the Rhone of France is a marmite wine, its  love it or hate it red wine when its first opened. Its dry, medium bodied and very juicy with rich aromas and flavours of blackcurrant and hints of spice but with a tanker full of herbs thrown in. When I tried it the next day much of the overpowering herb flavours had disapated. It’s not bad with all the herby nores but not what I was expecting, but it is also more juice focused and one dimensional.  Even at £6.99 at Majestic Wines on a mixed 6 offer i couldn’t give it more points, sorry not for me.

A cheap pinot noir is always worth trying because to get a good one is hard and this one from La Belle Angèle from the Languedoc, France is cheap at £7.50. Dry, and easy drinking it’s OK but there’s too much sour cherry at the expense of structure and other flavours. Better when having with food, cheese in my case, it’s one to consider for a BBQ or party.

New Hall Estate, Single Estate, Pinot Noir, 2021, Essex, UK

New Hall Estate in Essex can produce so excellent Lines but this single Estate Pinot Noir is outstanding. It’s one of the best Rosé wines I’ve tasted in a long time. There is a classiness about it, it’s subtle with redcurrent, strawberry, hint of creaminess and minerality on the finish.

At £16 a bottle it’s not cheap but its fantastic wine.

This white wine made primarily with pinot Blanc grapes, is another classic English White from New Hall in Essex and it’s all the better for it.

It’s a dry fruity wine with flavours of citrus and hints of peach, it’s a great wine for the summer sitting in the garden enjoying life or have with sea food. At £13 its fair value.

Thus is one of fruitiest wines I have tasted this year with huge amounts of black fruit with a velvet texture. It’s a bit like Ribena for adults which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but the structure and finess is lacking. At £11 a bottle it’s not an outrageous price but there are better fruitier wines under £10.

Another New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc,  can it get any more boring? Thus is a rather good one, dry, reasonably light, refreshing with decent flavours and aromas. Lime, citrus, pineapple, hints of gooseberry and green apple. At £14 a bottle it should be decent and it delivers.

Tesco sell a lot of wine do some of it will be terrible and some of it will be great. This is the latter. Excellent black fruit flavours and aromas with good length and firm bit not overly harsh tannins. Pair with a stew or steak for a great combination. Oh with discounts it was under £5, every little helps 😉

English Pinot Noir is pretty good but when it’s rose it’s even better. Grape Passions is a wind merchant just douth of Colchester znd this is their own brand wine.  It’s fresh and crisp with plenty of flavour and good length. You have strawberry and raspberry with red fruit hints all the way through. At about £15 a bottle is not cheap but its pretty good.
